LTE Broadband Feature (Keystone Concept)

LTE Broadband is another wireless data infrastructure solution for Land Mobile Radio (LMR) data applications and services.

The LTE (Long Term Evolution) Broadband feature can greatly increase data capacity and data speed for wireless CPS to radio Over The Air Programming (OTAP).

LTE Broadband can also apply for Data Applications and Data Services such as Text Messaging Service (TMS), GPS Location, Automatic Registration Service (ARS), and Over-The-Air-Rekeying (OTAR). Broadband interfaces with standard cell phone infrastructure to provide wireless, high-speed, IP address-based connections. Secure encryption for radio broadband data is accomplished with CPS-defined Virtual Private Network (VPN) technologies. Radio voice communications are not possible with LTE Broadband; therefore, digital voice communications do continue over the ASTRO Conventional or ASTRO 25 Trunking Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure.

1.	Define LTE-Capable Data Profiles: MANDATORY: The LTE Enable field must be "Enabled", and... For Trunking - channels, the Data Profile Type must be "Broadband-Only" or "Trunking & Broadband", OR For Conventional - channels, the Data Profile Type must be "Broadband-Only" or "Conventional & Broadband".
2.	OPTIONAL: If secure-encrypted data connections are required across an LTE network, select "Secure" in the Data Profile's VPN Secure / Clear Strapping field. With encryption enabled, additional Network Layer Security fields must then be defined for the purposes of establishing a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) tunnel between the radio and the VPN gateway in the CEN (Customer Enterprise Network). 3.	Data Wide settings on the LTE Page determine how radio data communications transitions between the LTE Broadband data network and the LMR (Land Mobile Radio) data network. 4.	Interference Mitigation in the 700 MHz Frequency Band: The 700 MHz band is adjacent to LTE bands Class 13/14, with a guard band that is insufficient to avoid RF interference; therefore... LTE-enabled Trunking and / or Conventional channels must not contain any 700 MHz frequencies. Any Scan List that contains a Scan List Member that uses a frequency in the 700 MHz band is considered to be incompatible with an LTE system / radio channel. The Conventional Personality LTE Interference Frequency Present must be manually enabled when appropriate. Trunking System LTE Interference Frequency Present is automatically defined.
5.	Enabling and disabling LTE Broadband capabilities on a radio-wide basis may be radio-user initiated with an LTE button-press or an LTE menu selection.
